Dear AFSCME Sisters and Brothers,

There is so much to say about Wisconsin – and Ohio – and now Indiana. But right now we're asking you to say thank you.

The courage of Wisconsin's 14 Democratic state senators – who are preventing Governor Walker's bill from being voted upon – is exactly the kind of leadership we need in state capitals everywhere.

That's why we hope you'll add your name to our thank you card for these courageous senators today. You can even add a personal message to the card. Tell them to stay strong in the days and weeks ahead.

Overnight, the men and women of the "Wisconsin 14" have drawn a line in the sand in the attacks against working people. While this is the right thing to do, it’s not an easy thing to do. They have been away from their families, their friends and their daily lives for almost a week now. They are under intense pressure to walk away from this fight. Please tell them "thanks and stay strong."

AFSCME leaders in Wisconsin will share this card with these 14 senators so they know how inspiring they are and that we are with them.

We are under attack like never before by anti-worker governors who want to gut public services and jobs and take away workers' rights. We have also never been so inspired by the groundswell of action and unity in Wisconsin and across the nation.

And we're starting to have an impact. The widespread protests against the attacks on workers' rights have given pause to governors in Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Indiana. Even former Republican Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson refused to answer when asked if he supported Walker's anti-worker bill, saying "That's a question you're going to have to ask the governor."

The fight in Wisconsin has become a watershed moment for our country. Our struggle to preserve the freedom of all working Americans – from a concerted attack by corporate interests and right-wing ideologues – is one that we cannot afford to lose.

It's all the more important that these 14 Wisconsin senators stay strong and don't give in. Please take a moment to thank them for standing with us during this historic fight. Tell them to keep it up.

In solidarity,

P.S. This morning there are media reports that state troopers have been dispatched to these senators' homes. The pressure is mounting on these 14 state senators — and their families. They need to hear from you! Go to www.standforservice.org for the latest news.
