Urgent Legislative Action Request

By Paul Faria - Posted on 05 June 2010

We are facing a serious threat to badly needed federal
aid to our states that will help prevent even further cuts to the essential
services provided by AFSCME members.

Specifically, we are in danger of losing billions in
Federal Medicaid Assistance Percentage (FMAP) funding.  Last week, the House of Representatives stripped the FMAP
funding from the jobs bill.  Our best shot now is to get FMAP funding included
in the Senate bill but doing so requires 60 votes and a great deal of work in
the coming days.

If these funds are not approved, we will undoubtedly be
impacted by more funding cuts and more layoffs.

In Massachusetts, we will lose $877 million, nearly $700
million of which is already included in the FY11 budget currently being
finalized on Beacon Hill.

Our International union is currently airing statewide
radio commercials in Massachusetts targeting U.S. Senator Scott
Brown for support. This radio campaign will run through
Friday

Please join this campaign by calling
Senator Brown now at 617-565-3170 and urge him to support including FMAP money
in the Senate jobs bill.
