Upgrades

As many of you know we have been involved in a dispute with the commonwealth around a contract which involved .25% of the total contract value and how to use it. The committee which was formed @ 4 years ago has finally completely resolved this issue. The first portion of that money was distributed as a one time payout any member who was working when the contract commenced and was still working when it was paid. You saw this I believe a month ago in your paychecks. This money was originally intended as upgrades for various DMH, DPH, DDS, and ISO positions in DYS.

Contract Negotiations

The State is crying poor in contract negotiations. They claim low tax revenues and there is little money for raises. The current offer from the State is 1%, 2%, and 2% over 3 years. This is far too low to be acceptable. Furthermore they have told us any monetary items we wish to include need to be taken from this money I.E. hazardous pay for weather emergencies and higher shift differentials. Here is an article from the 10/18/2017 State House News from the Unions in Massachusetts to Governor Baker.

VOTE!

Vote!!! Make sure you get out and elect the individuals who will lead this country and your state for the years to come. Nothing is more important than choosing the people who will make the laws and decisions that effect you financially. Make sure your family and friends get out and vote. Give them a ride if they need it, but make sure you and anyone else you know is not silenced due to lack of getting to the poles!

PEOPLE Jackets

Dear Council 93 staff,

It has become apparent that many of the members who have signed up as PEOPLE MVPs, (contributing at least $100/year), have not received their PEOPLE jackets. In an effort to streamline the process of sending them their jackets, we have created a Google form so that I may track who I have shipped jackets to. Please direct your members to:

Union Cards

Brothers and Sisters,

PLEASE READ IN ENTIRETY: Your Stewards will be coming around asking you to fill out a membership card for them. This is important as we do not have an accurate list of addresses for you all and when we sent out our yearly letter we received many back with bad addresses. We have elections coming up and those will be done through the mail, important correspondences can be sent out this way to inform you of what is going on with your Union

Baker's Proposed FY '17 budget

Governor Baker released his proposed FY ‘17 budget yesterday afternoon.

Our state members who rely on the GIC for healthcare coverage should know that the governor is attempting once again to increase GIC health insurance contribution rates for workers who were hired prior to July 1, 2003.  If you were hired before this date you are currently paying 20 percent of total premium costs.  If you were hired after that date you are paying 25 percent of premium costs.
